Kunle Ladejobi and Jubril Akande have emerged winners in the men and junior categories respectively in the Birthday Golf Kitty held at the Ibadan Golf Club (IGC).
The to event was organised to celebrate the former Minister of Police Affairs, Alhaji Abdul Jelili Adesiyan that turned 66 on Saturday August 14, 2021.
12-year-old Akande playing handicap 28 who was described as a good example and shining product of the IGC’s grassroots golf development returned with 87 gross over 69net with just one net score short from the overall winner, Ladejob,i playing off handicap 15 who scored 83 gross over 68 net to win the junior category.
Evelyn Oyome with handicap 6, won the ladies category with 85 gross over 79net while Chief Seye Omisore playing handicap 13 that emerged best in super veteran category scored 89 gross over 76net and Abiodun Asuni that is playing handicap 12 who won the veteran category had 88 gross over 78 net.
The celebrant, Adesiyan, distinguished golfer and a seasoned educationist who had also served as Commissioner for Education in Osun State with many indelible records to his credit in his speech during the prize presentation thanked all golfers, friends and well-wishers that took time to participate in the kitty held to celebrate his birthday.
He added that “I’m happy that I’m playing golf, it means a lot to me, it improves my stamina and well-being, for people that have not embraced it, it’s earlier they start because it’s a game of life.”
The Captain of IGC, Ola Ibironke in his remark described the celebrant as affable and amiable natured person who has sacrificed personal gains for the collective good of people, saying “he is one of our trustees here with the quality of a visionary, great and passionate leader, his contribution to the development of IGC cannot be over emphasized through his support to the club over the year.
The President of the Nigeria Golf Federation (NGF), Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola who was one of the dignitaries at the golf kitty eulogized the celebrant while making a speech where he described him as a political associate and a good golfing partner.
Prince Oyinlola also thumps up the young Jubril Akande for making the club proud and had proven to the world that kids can also do well in golf and not in football alone, if well tailored towards the path while describing him as future Tiger Wood owing to his speedy progression in the game of golf.
