The 4ESports organisers of the annual Ibraheem Junior Open Championship have reeled out the programme for the 2023 event holding from October 19-22 at the Ikeja Golf Club Lagos.
10th (edition) on the series of the championship meant for age 6-16 boys and girls, the arrival is October 19 as well as registration and practice round; Friday October 20 to Saturday October 21 is the competition proper, just as on Sunday October 22 everyone will say, “goodbye Lagos.”
Incidentally, the organisers of the championship have maintained the free registration (entry) fee, accommodation and feeding costs that could discourage the participation of many kids.
It is believed that no fewer than 150 kids from across Nigeria and beyond will participate in the championship which has turned around the fortunes of many golfing families going by the scholarship progamme from the major sponsor, Alhaji (Dr) Awa Ibraheem.
The championship which is also used to celebrate Alhaji Awa Ibraheem’s birthday offers every winner from the first to third positions scholarship from primary to tertiary institutions, worth over N150,000-N200,000 annually.
Invariably, the realistic scholarship progamme has in recent times made the championship more competitive, but the organisers and the technical committee of the championship take exception of any fraudulent practice, especially age cheat which attracts instant disqualification.
Recall Georgia Oboh, presently a professional golfer and Ladies European Tour (LET) player, Godwin Okoko, who just turned a PGA of Nigeria professional player and Daina Osmond, a University of Lagos graduate in Mass Communication are all beneficiaries of the Awa Ibraheem Junior Open Championship scholarship.
