Nigerian Sunday Olapade is presently exuding some air of confidence to post a scintillating performance at the 2022 ‘rejuvnated’ Libreville Open Golf Championship holding at Golf Club du Mindoube in Gabon capital.

This is against the backdrop of his securing a sponsorship deal with Kawai Technologies Ltd) a full service supply-chain for the tournament which teed off today June 2 and will end Sunday June 5.

“I feel very calm and confident ahead of this event. No doubt, the golf course is in good shape from the few practice rounds I’ve had here and I will definitely be giving it my best shot over the next few days.” 33-year-old Olapade said in a chat with 9jagolf.

Interestingly, Olapade, a top PGA of Nigeria golfer is coming off a fresh and strong top five finish at the recently concluded Cote d’ivore Open as he would be seeking to win his first international event this season.

Olapade however did not reveal the terms and conditions of the sponsorship with the Nigerian firm, but was grateful for the opportunity in the tournament which has other top golfers.

“Thanks to Kawai Technologies Ltd for the support in this event; it is a major landmark for my golfing career and I hope this last longer” he wished.

The other top players in the Open Championship include west Africa’s golfing giant, Vincent Togarh; Kenya’s Robson Chinoi; Cameroon’s Pristhy FON Nji and Samba Niang of Senegal among others.

Recalled that the Libreville Open will be staging again after two years of interregnum due to the Covid-19 pandemic which brought the global economy on its knees.

“This edition also marks the resumption of major sports competitions at the national level after two years of break due to the global pandemic of Covid-19“, the organisers said.

It is on record that the Libreville Open is one of the most sort after golf tournament in sub-Saharan Africa, which has attracted more fans over the years, as well as a large number of African professionals and beyond.

According to the organisers over 200 participants are expected on the “Greens” of the Golf Club du Libreville, for the 37th edition which promises to be rich in golfing experiences locally and internationally.

Thus, the development of golf sport in Gabon is expected to boost its economic potentials , following the example of what has fine-tuned Morocco’s sports tourism sector in recent years, Côte d’Ivoire too.

In this regard, the organisers announced that twenty partner companies based in Gabon have greatly thrown their weights behind this event towards making this tournament a success,.

The organisers concluded enthusiastically that the Libreville Open Golf Championship thus stands out as a true Pan-African edition combining business and sport.
