Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha, former Nigeria playmaker has opined Taiwo Awoniyi would look back at the 3-1 win over Sudan and have regrets.

Okocha stated this after Awoniyi scored once in the second Group D fixture at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Union Berlin striker made it 2-0 after Samuel Chukwueze opened the scoring in the third minute.

It was Awoniyi’s first goal for the Super Eagles, but Okocha feels that he should have grabbed a few more.

“Awoniyi would have done better. He would have scored more goals after that lucky goal but he was in too much of a haste.

“When he looks back at the match he would regret it.

“At least after scoring the goal, he would have gained more confidence,” Okocha said on Supersport.

Awoniyi has gotten his chance in the national team, after the trio of Victor Osimhen, Odion Ighalo and Emmanuel Dennis all pulled out of the tournament.
