Wondering why you wake up to dry skin issues after having a proper night skincare routine?
The answer lies in the mistakes you make to keep up with your skin at night which requires certain changes.
Your skin requires everyday care especially at night as the skin rejuvenates and plays with the skincare products we apply at night.

Using skincare products is not the end of your duty, but addressing skin concerns, reading the products on the label, and other mindful steps also matter.

1. Stop applying vitamin C products at night

Just as retinol is best for nighttime because of sunlight deactivation and sensitivity, vitamin C serums, and products also have an ideal time for application. One should never let vitamin C seep into your skin at night as it is an antioxidant and should be applied in the daytime to protect the skin’s upper layer from free radicals. Vitamin C works synergistically with our sunscreen fights off the rays from the run and is ideal for daytime only.

2. Not washing your face before bed

Many times people simply remove their makeup with tissues, makeup-removing cleansers, or wet wipes, and start with their night skincare routine without washing their face. One should always first wash their face and then start their skincare routine to remove the day, dirt, oil, pollution, and makeup particles that build up on the inner pores of their skin. This can only be removed with deep cleansing which is important before your night skin regime.

3. Never fail to moisturise

Many women and men usually use night creams and serums before bed and skip the step of moisturisation. One needs to understand that our skin becomes dehydrated, dry, and tight at night which increases the oil production causing sensitivity, redness, inflammation, and irritation in the morning. To go into the repair mode at night, moisturization is very important in your nightly routine.

4. Never combine retinol with vitamin C or glycolic acid

Retinol has very harsh properties and is not suitable for all skin types. Knowing its harsh results at times, many people combine retinol with glycolic acid and vitamin C which is a mistake. Do not layer or combine retinol with any other serum or cream because it can disrupt your skin barrier and cause excess redness and irritation. Understand the concept of less is more and then act upon it.

5. Changing of your pillowcase

Skincare is not just treating your facial skin with serums and products, but your bed also plays a key role. Your pillowcase thus plays a huge part of your skin routine and people make a mistake by sleeping on the same pillowcase they had on throughout the day. You should always have a separate pillowcase only used during your sleep and should wash it every third day. Sleeping in old and dirty pillow cases can at times lead to acne, dirty pores, and wrinkles in the long run.
