Netshiunda said the police are trying to put up a statement regarding the incident.
Police have arrested a 17-year-old mother after the death of her one-year-old child.
Speaking to Newzroom Afrika on Wednesday, KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said the one year old was playing with a gun when the tragedy occurred.
The mother is expected to appear in court on Thursday, facing a charge of murder .
“ Currently, we are looking at the case itself and, together with other departments who must be involved in cases of this nature, we are going to engage the family accordingly,” said Netshiunda.
