Francis Epe and Emmanuel Agwon tied one over par 69 was the best performance as the third ACUTECH Golf Championship teed off on Monday at the Ikeja Golf Club Lagos with about 100 players from across Nigeria and beyond.

Of the two players currently leading, Epe of Ikoyi Club, Lagos is expected by pundits to maintain the lead in the perceived challenging Ikeja Golf course where players have always had a herculean task playing under par at tournaments.

The confidence in Epe, a Bayelsa State-born player is against the background of his recent form which is not in doubt in the men’s professional circle in Nigeria, just as he has won couple tournaments recently.

In the Ladies category, hot-shot Bola Mustapha, led the way with 13-over; while Francis Ugbong is the cynosure of all eyes in the Senior Tour with 7-over.

As the second round of the 54 holes championship heats up today Tuesday, it is unsure who will make the final round as the bests of the last 30 players as at Monday are tied on 7 and 8 overs respectively.

Meanwhile, the players have expressed satisfaction at their renewed welfare package saying, “this system of giving us our welfare package in cash has brought some relief, because it adds value to what we’re getting.” The championship wraps up on Wednesday January 15, 2024.
