Royal AM Football Club expelled from PSL amid financial struggles

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has expelled Royal AM Football Club following an ongoing financial crisis.

The club, once owned by businesswoman Shauwn “MaMkhize” Mkhize, has been under curatorship by the South African Revenue Service (SARS) due to an unpaid R40-million tax debt.

Royal AM had not played a PSL match since December 29, with their fixtures repeatedly postponed.

The decision to expel the club from the league was confirmed in a memo sent to all PSL clubs, citing Royal AM’s failure to meet league obligations, misrepresentation during the renewal application, and unauthorized transfer of shares.

As a result, the league will continue with 15 clubs, and the club finishing in 15th place will enter the Relegation/Promotion Play-Offs at the season’s end.

This follows the club’s earlier expulsion from the Nedbank Cup after a series of financial and administrative issues.

Royal AM’s last official match was on January 27 against Milford FC in the Nedbank Cup, marking the end of a tumultuous period for the club, which now faces an uncertain future amid its ongoing legal battles
