Johannesburg Water has announced a planned water outage for Wednesday, 9 April, affecting Ennerdale, Orange Farm and Lawley reservoirs.

The interruption, which lasted from 7am to 6pm, was necessary for Eskom to conduct maintenance on its Daleside Substation, which is conducted every three years.

Affected areas

The water outage will affect those in region G, including:

  • Drieziek,
  • Eldorado Park,
  • Ennerdale,
  • Finetown,
  • Kanana Park,
  • Lakeside,
  • Lawley, Lenasia,
  • Nancefield,
  • Orange Farm,
  • Stretford Extensions,
  • Vlakfontein, and
  • Zakariyya Park fall

Residents in these regions will experience low pressure and no water supply during the maintenance period.

“This serves as an early reminder for consumers to plan storage of water close to the time of the maintenance, and to use alternative means like rainwater harvesting to store rainwater for non-consumption use,” Joburg Water said.

12-hour outage in region D

Meanwhile, residents in Region D have been without water since Tuesday morning; restoration is expected later at 8pm on Tuesday.

According to Joburg Water, the outage is due to its general maintenance.

Affected areas:

  • Tshepisong zone
  • Soweto
  • Doornkop west area
  • Portion of Protea Glen
  • Snake park
  • Leratong village
  • Thulani
  • Lufhureng

The water service stated that the repair work aims to “improve service delivery, continuity of water supply and safety for customers”.

However, water tanker roaming trucks will provide alternative water to affected residents.

Water restrictions

According to Joburg Water, the City of Johannesburg remains under Level 1 water restrictions as of Tuesday.

“Johannesburg Water has also been implementing a water supply reduction since 8 November 2024, a measure that has been communicated to residents,” it said.

Joburg Water is closely monitoring its systems, which have been stable, and will provide updates to residents when needed.

“To manage high consumption and support the recovery of our systems, Johannesburg Water will continue to enforce the restriction programme according to the separate schedule. This includes halting pumping at various pump stations to towers,” it concluded.
