Nduli grabs the winner 11 minutes from time.

Stellenbosch FC showed why they are one of the emerging sides in the continent, never mind South Africa, as they stunned Egyptian giants Zamalek 1-0 in Cairo on Wednesday to reach the semifinals of the Caf Confederation Cup.

Sihle Nduli got the only goal of the game 11 minutes from time at the Cairo International Stadium, to give Steve Barker’s side a 1-0 aggregate victory following a goalless draw at the Cape Town Stadium on April 2.

it was a scrappy game, in truth, with few clear chances created by either side. But Stellies struck when substitute Lesiba Nku cut the ball back, and Nduli slammed an excellent first-time finish into the back of the net.

Nabil Dunga missed an excellent chance for Zamalek shortly after, but in the main the Confederation Cup champions lf 2024 had no way back, with the away goals rule leaving them needing to net twice to go through

Stellies will now face Simba FC of Tanzania in the semifinals. Simba, coached by South African Fadlu Davids, beat another Egyptian side, Al Masry, producing a stunning comeback to reach the last four.

2-0 down from the first leg, Davids’ side won 2-0 at the Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium, and then won 4-1 on penalties.
