With their breathtaking landscapes and a myriad of wild animals to observe in their natural habitat, these six African and Asian countries guarantee an unforgettable safari!

Planning to go on a safari? Read our articles to plan your trip:

1. Kenya and Tanzania, the best safari destinations

2. Botswana and Namibia, lands of contrast

Chobe National Park (Botswana) and its four different ecosystems, Cape Cross (Namibia) and its huge sea lion colonies, the Okavango Delta (Botswana) formed by swamps and flooded grasslands, Etosha National Park (Namibia) established in a vast white salt desert, to name just a few. In these two Southern African countries, countless species of animals that can be admired in the wild flourish in incredibly diverse regions and climates.

3. Sri Lanka, a treasure island in the Indian Ocean

Boasting 26 parks and nature reserves, Sri Lanka is a destination of choice for travellers looking for unforgettable encounters with wildlife. The best-renowned animal sanctuaries are found to the south of the island: inland, Uda Walawe is an elephants’ paradise. On the south coast, Bundala is an important bird sanctuary. On the east coast, the extremely popular Yala National Park counts a wide variety of mammals (monkeys, leopards, jackals, buffaloes, bears) in a huge dry deciduous forest dotted with lakes and lagoons.

4. South Africa, meeting the Big Five

With its well-kept roads and secure parks, South Africa is perfect for an independent photo safari. To the north-east of the country, Kruger Park guarantees breathtaking landscapes and an incredible array of animals, including the Big Five (elephants, buffaloes, rhinoceroses, leopards and lions) to admire whatever the season. Hluhluwe Imfolozi Game Reserve, Tembe Elephant Park and Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park are other sites that offer a fabulous animal spectacle.

India

Safari, but make it tigers. India’s jungles are home to the elusive Bengal tiger and an entirely different ecosystem. Top parks: Ranthambore, Bandhavgarh, Jim Corbett

Bonus: Spot leopards, sloth bears, elephants — with spicy food and culture on the side.
