The South African Weather Service (Saws) has released its latest weather forecast for Good Friday, 18 April 2025.
The weather services have only warned of extreme fire danger in some Western Cape municipalities, but otherwise, the Good Friday weather will be cloudy and cool for most provinces. Here’s what you need to know.

Fire danger warnings
The weather service has warned of extremely high fire danger conditions over the Cederberg, Bergrivier and Matzikama municipalities of the Western Cape.

Here’s what to expect in your province on Good Friday, 18 April:
Gauteng:
Residents of Gauteng can expect cloudy and cool weather with isolated showers and thundershowers.
The region’s expected UVB sunburn index is “high”.
Residents should take the necessary precautions against prolonged sun exposure.
Mpumalanga:
Mpumalanga residents can expect cloudy and cool conditions with rain along the escarpment in the morning and isolated showers and thundershowers in the afternoon, except in the Lowveld.
Limpopo:
The day will be cloudy and cool to warm with rain along the southern escarpment in the morning and isolated showers and thundershowers in the afternoon except in the Lowveld.
North West:
Morning fog patches await North West residents in places in the west; otherwise, it will be cloudy and cool to warm, with isolated showers and thundershowers.
Free State:
Residents of the Free State will experience morning fog patches in places; otherwise, it will be cloudy and cold to cool, with isolated showers and thundershowers.
Northern Cape:
The day will be fine and cool to warm, but partly cloudy in the east, with isolated showers and thundershowers and morning fog patches in the northeast.
Western Cape:
Western Cape residents can expect partly cloudy weather in the northeast in the morning; otherwise, it will be fine and cool to warm but hot over the western interior.
The region’s expected UVB sunburn index is “high”.

Eastern Cape (western half):
It will start with morning fog in places; otherwise, conditions will be fine and cool to warm.
Eastern Cape (eastern half):
The day will start with morning fog in places; otherwise, it will be partly cloudy and cool with a chance of light rain along the wild coast and adjacent interior.
KwaZulu-Natal:
Residents of KwaZulu-Natal can look forward to morning fog patches over the central interior; otherwise, it will be cloudy and cool with isolated showers of rain. It will be warm in the north-east.
