Umlazi-born actor Khaye Sibisi, who stars as Tim in e.tv’s Smoke & Mirrors, has quickly become a fan favorite for his relatable and comedic portrayal of a devoted family man constantly dragged into chaos by his friend, Sipho. At 34, Sibisi has also made appearances in Muvhango, Empini, and My Brother’s Keeper.
“Tim is a funny character but there’s a lesson in him. He has a wife and kids — he’s a family man. Sipho is alone. Sometimes Tim doesn’t want to let his friend down, and that’s how he ends up in trouble without even knowing how,” said Sibisi.

Challenges in the Acting Industry
Sibisi opened up about the hurdles actors face in the industry, including delayed payments and stepping into roles previously played by other actors.
“Sometimes you replace another actor, and it’s difficult because they’ve already shaped the character their own way. You have to find your own rhythm while still honoring what was already built,” he explained.
A Pause on Music to Pursue Acting
While Khaye is also passionate about music, he’s currently on hiatus from that path to focus on acting.
“I took a break from music because I never had a breakthrough. I’m trying to establish myself through acting first, then I’ll return to music. I haven’t released anything yet because I want the right platform,” he said.
Sibisi remains a multi-talented force, driven to make his mark on both screen and stage.
