Steve Letsike refuses to bow to pressure from trolls

Deputy Minister Mmapaseka Steve Letsike is not backing down in the face of online hate.

The Department of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities official has responded firmly to waves of homophobic attacks following her criticism of Podcast and Chill host Mac G over his remarks about media personality Minnie Dlamini.

Letsike, who has long been open about her identity, made it clear that she won’t be silenced or shamed.

In a recent post on X, she shared a powerful message aimed at her detractors: “I used to rush to defend myself against attacks and false accusations. But now I watch to see who believes it. We don’t give up, we continue to stand up for a just society.”

She ended her message with a strong affirmation of her identity: “By the way, I remain a proud lesbian woman even in times like these.”

Her comments come after she publicly condemned Mac G and his co-hosts for their body-shaming remarks about Minnie Dlamini, which she described as “nauseating in its vulgarity.”

Letsike went further to label the podcast’s long-standing record of misogynistic commentary as a form of “online gender-based violence.”

Reinforcing her commitment to advocacy, Letsike wrote earlier this week: “I do not mince my words. Don’t get confused. Those who have just woke up to the issues, welcome. We will work with you. But we will not stop protecting the rights of all people. I am here to serve everyone.”
