3 shot dead at a funeral – Ngcobo Funeral Shooting

Ngcobo Funeral Shooting

There was death at a funeral, and this led to the Ngcobo Funeral Shooting which claimed 3 lives. A horrific shooting at Mangweni Location in Ngcobo, Eastern Cape, has left three family members dead and two others injured during funeral preparations for a deceased relative.

The incident occurred on Thursday night, 15 May, when two armed suspects allegedly stormed into a home where the family was mourning. The assailants opened fire, fatally wounding three individuals. Two others were rushed to All Saints Hospital for treatment.

Police Launch Manhunt Ngcobo Funeral Shooting

Eastern Cape Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major-General Thandiswa Kupiso, confirmed that the South African Police Service (SAPS) has mobilised all available resources to track down at least two suspects linked to the attack.

“Police are pursuing all leads and have deployed a team of experienced detectives from the Provincial Serious and Violent Crimes Unit in Ngcobo,” said Kupiso. “The motive remains unclear at this stage.”

Kupiso urged residents of Dalasile and surrounding communities to come forward with any information that could assist the investigation. Community members can contact Detective Sergeant Sandiso Madinga at 071 475 2105, call Crime Stop on 08600 10111, or report to their nearest police station.

Outrage and Condolences from Local Leaders

Dr AB Xuma Municipality Mayor, Siyabulela Zangqa, expressed his shock and sorrow at the incident.

“This horrific act claimed the lives of three community members and left two others seriously injured. Our heartfelt condolences go to the affected families,” said Zangqa. “Gun violence has no place in our communities. We cannot allow our towns and villages to become battlegrounds for criminals.”

Zangqa called for unity, calm, and swift action from law enforcement to bring the perpetrators to justice.
