Ntsiki Mazwai calls Trevor Noah an ‘industry plant’

Ntsiki Mazwai has sparked fresh controversy online after accusing Trevor Noah of being an “industry plant” for his silence on false claims of a white genocide in South Africa.

The outspoken poet and activist didn’t hold back in her comments about the US-based South African comedian, who has faced criticism for not addressing international narratives that portray South Africa as hostile toward its white citizens; a claim recently echoed by former U.S. President Donald Trump.

Responding to a post on X (formerly Twitter) praising actress Viola Davis for publicly standing with South Africa, Ntsiki questioned why Trevor has remained silent despite his global platform.

Her response was sharp and pointed: “Plants don’t have a voice, my love.”

The term “industry plant” typically refers to someone perceived as self-made but who is actually carefully placed and supported by powerful industry figures, often expected to play it safe or avoid controversial subjects.

Mazwai’s take ignited a wave of mixed reactions. While some defended Trevor, citing the risks celebrities face when speaking out, others sided with Ntsiki’s blunt honesty.

One user wrote: “I used to get mad when celebs kept quiet, but then I realised that Darkies never do shyt when the celebs fall from grace… We want them to talk, but if they lose sponsors, we don’t boycott those sponsors.”

Meanwhile, another user took a different tone, saying: “If it upsets you, go back to the Congo, my dear settler.”
