The South African Weather Service (Saws) has released its latest weather forecast for Saturday, 31 May 2025.

Damaging waves are expected between Saldanha Bay and Plettenberg Bay in the Western Cape, otherwise May will end on a fine and cool note. Here’s what you need to know.

Weather warnings, Saturday, 31 May

Impact-based warnings

The weather service has issued a yellow level 2 warning for damaging waves leading to difficulty in navigation at sea between Saldanha Bay and Plettenberg Bay in the Western Cape until Sunday.

Provincial weather forecast

Here’s what to expect in your province on Saturday, 31 May:

Gauteng:

Residents of Gauteng can expect fine and cool weather conditions.

The region’s expected UVB sunburn index is “high”.

Residents should take the necessary precautions against prolonged sun exposure.

Mpumalanga:

Mpumalanga residents can expect morning fog along the escarpment and the southern parts, otherwise conditions will be fine and cool to warm. It will be cloudy in the east in the morning becoming partly cloudy by the afternoon.

Limpopo:

The day will start with morning fog over the extreme south-eastern parts, otherwise it will be fine and cool to warm but partly cloudy in the east.

North West:

Fine and cool weather awaits North West residents on Saturday.

Free State:

Residents of the Free State will experience morning fog in the east, otherwise conditions will be fine and cool.

Northern Cape:

The day will start with morning fog in places over the western interior, otherwise it will be fine and cool to warm, but cold in the west.

Western Cape:

Western Cape residents can expect morning fog patches over the interior, otherwise the weather will be fine and cool but partly cloudy in the south-west.

Eastern Cape (western half):

The day will be fine and cool.

Eastern Cape (eastern half):

Expect fine and cool weather conditions on Saturday.

KwaZulu-Natal:

Residents of KwaZulu-Natal will experience partly cloudy conditions with morning fog over the interior, otherwise it will be fine and cool but warm in the north-east.

The region’s expected UVB sunburn index is “high”.

Residents should take the necessary precautions against prolonged sun exposure.
