Controversial self-proclaimed prophet Brother Enigma has sparked outrage after claiming that the late gospel music figure and media personality Zanele Mbokazi-Nkambule is burning in hell. The allegations have been dismissed as “madness” by her grieving husband, Bishop Mpendulo Nkambule.

Brother Enigma, born Phillip Thosa, is no stranger to controversy. Known for his dramatic spiritual claims and bold proclamations, he now asserts that he was given a divine vision in which he saw the late Ukhozi FM presenter suffering in the afterlife. According to Brother Enigma, Jesus Christ opened his “spiritual eyes” and allowed him to see Zanele in torment.

“She was crying in agony,” said Enigma in a widely circulated video. “There was fire and smoke. I saw burnt people raising what remained of their hands—just bones. A voice called out, saying she was Zanele Mbokazi. She cried repeatedly, pleading with me to tell all pastors’ wives to wear something on their heads to cover their hair.”

Brother Enigma’s Claims Cause Public Uproar

The statement has drawn strong criticism from the public and religious communities, many of whom have accused Brother Enigma of exploiting a sensitive moment for attention. Zanele Mbokazi-Nkambule was a beloved figure in South Africa’s gospel and media circles. Outside of her radio presence on Ukhozi FM, she was the founder of the Crown Gospel Music Awards, an initiative that elevated countless gospel artists in the country.

Zanele passed away in August 2024 at the age of 52 after a prolonged battle with lung cancer. Her death was met with widespread mourning, and tributes poured in from across the country celebrating her legacy and contributions to gospel music and Christian media.

Bishop Mpendulo Nkambule Responds: “We Will Not Entertain Madness”

Bishop Mpendulo Nkambule, husband of the late gospel star, has firmly dismissed Brother Enigma’s claims.

“I don’t know this man,” he said in a recent interview. “I’ve never heard of him, and we are not going to entertain such madness. I don’t have time to validate insanity.”

He added that the family is still in mourning and would prefer to focus on honoring Zanele’s memory rather than engaging with baseless accusations.

Brother Enigma, real name Phillip Thosa, describes himself as a man with a special spiritual connection to Jesus Christ. He frequently shares visions and spiritual revelations on social media platforms. His followers refer to him as “The Enigma of Jesus,” a title he embraces proudly.

Brother Enigma insists that his vision was real and that he was chosen to deliver this message, especially to the wives of pastors. “Zanele told me in the spirit to tell pastors’ wives to cover their heads. She was crying out, shouting her name. I couldn’t mistake her voice. Even though her face was unrecognizable from the flames, the voice was clear.”

Despite the emotional tone of his message, critics argue that Brother Enigma’s claims are not only sensationalist but also deeply disrespectful to the memory of a woman who dedicated her life to Christian service.

Zanele Mbokazi-Nkambule was more than a gospel presenter—she was a pioneer and a spiritual influencer in her own right. As the founder of the Crown Gospel Music Awards, she created a platform that recognized and rewarded gospel talent across Africa. Her work inspired countless musicians and brought gospel music into mainstream recognition.

Zanele was also known for her deep faith and her advocacy for women in ministry. Many have taken to social media to defend her legacy and condemn what they see as an attack on her character by Brother Enigma.

“She was a woman of faith, dignity, and service,” said one follower on Facebook. “She deserves to be remembered for the love and light she shared—not dragged into bizarre afterlife claims.”

Brother Enigma’s claims have reignited a long-standing debate within religious circles about spiritual authority, visions, and prophetic legitimacy. While he insists that his message is divine and urgent, many remain skeptical.

As the Nkambule family continues to grieve, the public spotlight now turns to the ethical responsibility of those who claim to speak for God. In the meantime, Zanele Mbokazi-Nkambule remains in the hearts of many as a gospel icon who uplifted millions—despite what Brother Enigma says from his so-called spiritual visions.
