Kanye West changes name to Ye
Kanye West is making headlines once more for another name change.
The rapper and fashion mogul, who legally dropped his full name Kanye Omari West in favor of simply “Ye” back in 2021, has now taken it a step further.
Recent business filings in California suggest that he’s adopted a new name: Ye Ye.
According to a report by E! News, West’s Chief Financial Officer, Hussain Lalani, listed him as “Ye Ye” in several documents submitted to the California Secretary of State.
While Kanye hasn’t made a formal public announcement about the legal change, the paperwork points to a potential shift in how he wishes to be identified, both personally and professionally.
Just earlier this month, Ye shared on X (formerly Twitter) that he was moving away from his long-time handle, @kanyewest, and starting fresh.
“I’ma finally stop using the @kanyewest Twitter ’cause my name is Ye,” he posted on June 1. “Gonna start a ye account and it is what it is,” he added.

This isn’t the first time Ye has spoken about the significance behind his name.
Back in 2018, during an interview with radio host Big Boy, he explained why the term “ye” resonated with him: “In the Bible, it means ‘you’. So, I’m you, I’m us, it’s us. It went from Kanye, which means ‘the only one’, to just Ye, a reflection of our good, our bad, our confusion, everything.”
