Djy-Jaivane-Young Stunna

Young Stunna’s Hit – Popular Amapiano producer and Simnandi Records founder Djy Jaivane has set the South African music industry ablaze with fresh controversy after claiming that he deserves credit and royalties for Young Stunna’s breakout hit, “Adiwele.” The bold revelation was made during a candid conversation on the Piano Pulse Podcast, igniting widespread debate across the Amapiano community.

The track in question, Adiwele, is widely recognized as one of the genre’s most iconic anthems, credited with launching Young Stunna into mainstream stardom. Released under Kabza De Small’s PianoHub imprint, the song quickly became a national and international hit, elevating both Stunna’s and Kabza’s profiles.

However, Djy Jaivane’s latest claims suggest that the success of Adiwele may have deeper roots than previously known.

Speaking on the podcast, Djy Jaivane stated unequivocally that Adiwele was originally recorded while Young Stunna was still signed to Simnandi Records, Jaivane’s independent label known for nurturing rising Amapiano talent.

“That song was recorded during his time with us,” Jaivane said. “Yes, it was released later under Kabza’s label, but it was born here.”

The seasoned producer went on to explain that, despite feeling sidelined in the official release and its massive commercial success, he chose not to take legal action out of principle.

“If I wanted to, I would’ve done what some people do—go on social media, drag names, bring in lawyers. But I’m not that kind of person,” he stated.

Jaivane’s calm yet pointed remarks have triggered a wave of reactions online, with fans and fellow musicians weighing in on the ethics of artist development, ownership, and recognition in South Africa’s fast-evolving Amapiano landscape.

The Backstory: Simnandi Records and Young Stunna

Before rising to fame, Young Stunna was closely associated with Simnandi Records, where Djy Jaivane played a key role in mentoring the young vocalist and exposing him to the broader Amapiano circuit. Many in the industry have credited Jaivane with having an eye for talent and offering early platforms to now-prominent artists.

Adiwele marked a turning point in Stunna’s career, leading to his alignment with Kabza De Small, one of the genre’s most influential figures. While Kabza and Stunna have enjoyed considerable success, Jaivane’s claims now cast a shadow over the backstory of that hit song.

Young Stunna

This isn’t the first time Djy Jaivane’s name has surfaced in connection with royalties and music rights disputes. In recent weeks, he has faced criticism from former collaborators who allege they were not properly compensated or credited for their contributions to projects under the Simnandi banner.

In addressing these concerns during the podcast, Jaivane appeared to flip the script, using Adiwele as an example of a time when he himself may have been sidelined, despite playing an instrumental role in the creation of a chart-topping song.

For many, this highlights an ongoing struggle in the South African music industry—particularly in genres like Amapiano—where informal agreements, verbal commitments, and handshake deals often define early-stage collaborations. These informalities can later lead to disputes when commercial success becomes a reality.

Fans of Djy Jaivane and Young Stunna have taken to social media to express a mix of support, confusion, and frustration. While some argue that Young Stunna owes Jaivane proper credit, others believe that if no formal contracts were in place, there’s little that can be done retroactively.

“Jaivane put Stunna on the map,” one fan tweeted. “Adiwele would not be what it is without his early influence.”

Others, however, called for transparency and the formalization of artist-producer relationships in the Amapiano genre, which has often thrived on community-based, collaborative production models.

Despite the controversy, Djy Jaivane remains a key figure in the Amapiano movement, respected for his DJ sets, carefully curated compilations, and ability to elevate emerging artists. His label, Simnandi Records, continues to sign and support young talent, with a strong presence in both live events and digital platforms.

Whether or not Adiwele ever results in legal action or compensation is unclear. What’s certain is that Jaivane’s comments have opened up an important dialogue around ownership, mentorship, and accountability in the industry.

By stepping forward with his version of events around Adiwele, Djy Jaivane has not only reignited a discussion about royalties and credit in the music business but also highlighted the need for clearer industry practices. As Amapiano continues to dominate charts and dance floors worldwide, issues of recognition and fairness will only become more pressing.

Whether Young Stunna will respond remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: Djy Jaivane’s voice still carries serious weight in the genre he helped shape.
