FIDO Device to Streamline Passkey

HID has unveiled a new line of FIDO-certified credentials, now integrated with its Enterprise Passkey Management (EPM) solution, aiming to make it easier for organisations to deploy and manage passkeys at scale. The move targets a growing demand for password-less authentication, while addressing persistent challenges around complexity and cost.

The announcement follows new research from the FIDO Alliance indicating that while 87% of enterprises are in the process of adopting passkeys, nearly half of organisations yet to deploy them cite difficulty of implementation and expense as the primary obstacles. HID says its expanded portfolio is designed to remove those barriers by offering flexible deployment options, streamlined management, and robust security.

According to HID, the EPM platform represents the next phase of its roadmap for password-less authentication. The company says it enables enterprises to roll out phishing-resistant authentication without sacrificing either user experience or security posture.

The solution is built to operate seamlessly across a range of work environments, providing centralised visibility and control for IT teams. HID claims this approach reduces the burden on technical support staff while allowing security teams to manage credentials with the same precision as other components of the identity stack.

Sean Dyon, Vice President and Head of HID’s Authentication Business Unit, emphasised the need for tailored solutions:

“Phishing-resistant authentication isn’t one-size-fits-all. It’s a journey, and we’re here to help enterprises along the way. Rolling out passkeys isn’t just about issuing devices – it’s about giving security teams the tools to manage them at enterprise scale.”

HID Launches FIDO-Certified Enterprise Passkey Management Solution to Simplify Large-Scale Deployment

HID says its subscription-based EPM service gives IT and identity access management leaders the ability to drive password-less adoption securely and efficiently, while maintaining full administrative oversight. Key features include:

  • Remote provisioning: Issue FIDO credentials on behalf of users, reducing manual effort, training requirements, and deployment time.

  • Lifecycle visibility: Manage credential issuance, revocation, and audit trails at scale to support compliance and operational efficiency.

The company argues that enterprise-wide adoption of FIDO technology requires not just secure hardware but also the right tools for control, continuity, and compliance.

As part of the launch, HID has introduced three new purpose-built authenticators under its Crescendo line, each designed to meet different organisational needs:

  • Crescendo Keys: Redesigned for improved ergonomics and accessibility, supporting FIDO2, PKI, and OATH with remote PIN reset functionality. HID says these are ideal for power users and regulated industries.

  • Crescendo Cards: A universal corporate badge providing both physical facility access and password-less digital authentication. Available in dual interface or contactless formats, with support for FIDO, PKI, OATH, and major physical access technologies.

  • OMNIKEY 5022 Contactless Reader: A cost-effective FIDO reader for PC and workstation authentication, aimed at delivering high-quality security without a high price point.

All devices, HID notes, are fully compatible with Microsoft Entra ID and other major identity providers, allowing for seamless integration into existing enterprise infrastructure.

Early feedback on the new devices has been positive. David Backus, Sales Engineer at TX Systems Identity Solutions, praised the redesigned Crescendo Key:

“The new Crescendo Key immediately stood out with its sleek and durable design. Getting started was simple and setup was intuitive and fast. It stands apart from other FIDO keys on the market and is on par with the quality we have come to expect from HID. We will be recommending this device to customers who need secure credentials for authentication to Entra ID and Windows accounts.”

HID is also highlighting its one-card solutions, which integrate FIDO-based password-less login capabilities with physical access control. This approach, the company says, can increase workforce productivity by enabling both secure application access and facility entry with the same credential.

New offerings in this category include:

  • Seos FIDO-Enabled Card: Combines Seos physical access technology with phishing-resistant FIDO 2.1 authentication in a single secure credential.

  • MIFARE DESFire EV3 FIDO-Enabled Card: Merges advanced DESFire EV3 smart card technology with FIDO 2.1 support, providing unified access control for both physical and digital resources.

Scaling Security Without Complexity

HID’s launch signals a push to make enterprise-grade password-less authentication achievable for organisations of all sizes. By pairing secure hardware with centralised management and flexible deployment models, the company hopes to lower the entry barrier for businesses wary of cost and operational complexity.

With phishing-resistant credentials increasingly seen as essential to protecting against modern cyber threats, HID’s EPM solution could find a receptive audience among enterprises seeking to modernise their authentication strategies without overburdening IT teams or end users.
