Kamo Mphela’s dad addresses controversy over Jobe lyrics
Kamo Mphela’s father, Onitias Mphela, has opened up about his daughter’s music and the criticism surrounding some of her lyrics.
Speaking in an interview with To The Max Brand Management, the proud dad explained that while many people view him only as her parent, he also plays a role as a business partner in her career.
During the conversation, Mr Mphela recalled how one of the producers once asked if he was comfortable with the lyrics to Kamo’s viral hit Jobe. “
Another guy came to me and asked me if I am comfortable with the lyrics of the song, as the song is Jobe unginika kamnandi?” he said.
His response was clear: “What does that mean? Why should I not be comfortable with it? It is a song where she is an artist, she’s allowed to express herself.”
Music veteran JR, who was part of the discussion, also backed him up, saying it made sense for the father to be supportive as someone who understands the entertainment industry.
Mr Mphela went on to explain that although the track carries sexual undertones, it’s far from explicit or offensive.
“Guys, it sounds nice to the ears, she is not swearing at anyone, she is not being explicit with the lyrics like your Hip-Hop artist overseas,” he said.
He added that Kamo was so confident in her artistry that she never even asked if he was okay with the song.
“I am glad that she was comfortable with me, and she did not even bother to ask eish baba are you okay with Jobe unginika kamnandi,” he said.
