Cassper Nyovest has responded to criticism regarding the direction of his recent music, stating that his 2023 album Solomon was “slept on.” The comment was made in reply to a fan on Instagram who suggested that the artist had become “more commercial” and expressed a desire for the return of his older musical style.

The original comment read: “Recently u been more commercial, it’s not your fault Cass. We miss the old you though.” In response, Cassper dismissed the idea of having changed artistically, replying: “Ain’t no OLD ME. I’m still the same. I dropped an album like Solomon and it was slept on.”

New album drop by Cassper Nyovest, staying true to his original style with a fresh release on SlikourOnLife.

The interaction took place under a post that featured a TikTok clip of Cassper’s appearance on the L-Tido Podcast shared by the rapper. In the clip, Nyovest discusses his position in the South African music industry, stating clearly that he is competing in the commercial space. He emphasizes that he is focused on selling music.

During the podcast, Cassper stated: “I’m here to compete in commercial space. I am selling music and when the music is not doing well, I’m not happy.”

Solomon, released in September 2023, was Cassper’s seventh studio album. The project presented a more introspective tone, featuring personal reflections and fewer radio-focused singles. Despite its different approach, it did not receive the same level of attention or commercial impact as some of his earlier works, according to the artist.

Cassper’s comments highlight the tension artists often face between commercial success and creative expression. While some fans have expressed a longing for his earlier sound, the rapper maintains that his core identity has remained consistent. His response suggests frustration that projects like Solomon, which may reflect deeper themes, are not acknowledged with the same enthusiasm as more commercially-driven music.

The L-Tido Podcast appearance clip and the Instagram exchange have sparked wider conversation among fans online, with some supporting his stance and others continuing to debate the evolution of his music over the years.
