Former Miss South Africa and global pageant trailblazer Bokang Montjane-Tshabalala has been appointed as the new national director for Miss Universe South Africa

African Beauty International, the official licence holder of Miss Universe South Africa, has announced the appointment of Bokang Montjane-Tshabalala as the national director for Miss Universe in South Africa.

The businesswoman and philanthropist has over a decade of experience in the world of beauty and community development.

A former Miss South Africa 2010, Montjane-Tshabalala remains one of the most decorated pageant contestants in South African history. She has represented the nation at all four of the world’s most prestigious international competitions: Miss World, Miss Universe, Miss Earth and Miss International.

Beyond the crown

Her career has since evolved beyond the crown. Through her foundation and various social projects, Bokang has emerged as a leading advocate for education, gender equality and community upliftment.

Speaking of her appointment, she says, “My vision as national director is to grow Miss Universe South Africa into a platform that not only shines on the international stage but also creates tangible impact within our communities.

“Through African Beauty International, we aim to discover and nurture women who are passionate about impact, leadership and service. These are women who represent the full beauty and diversity of South Africa.”

Purpose in pageantry

Bokang’s focus will be on building a platform that merges glamour with purpose. This ensures contestants are not only prepared for international competition but also equipped to lead meaningful change at home.

“Pageantry, when rooted in purpose, becomes a catalyst for transformation,” she adds.

“I want every young woman who steps onto that stage to feel seen, celebrated and inspired to use her voice for change.”

Through African Beauty International, Montjane-Tshabalala has already elevated platforms such as Miss Supranational South Africa. She continues to champion initiatives focused on autism awareness, youth education and fighting gender-based violence.

All eyes will now turn to November 2025. Next, South Africa’s Miss Universe representative will compete on the global stage in Thailand, carrying Bokang’s mission of empowerment and excellence to the world.
