We sat down with Kwesta as he celebrated the 10th anniversary of his third studio album “DAKAR II”, released in 2016. He took us through the creation of the project—where his headspace was at, who he worked with and other details.
“I wasn’t intent in the studio and in I didn’t think about the community or of the consumer. I just said, ‘I’m from Katlehong, these are my friends, this is life as I know it let me just rap that and hopefully it’ll work. I won’t pick a beat because this is what’s happening or I heard a song from AKA or Cass or whoever was popping at the time.’” – Kwesta
