Felix Majekodunm, the Chairman of Ikoyi Golf Community Nigeria Association (IGCNA) has said that participants will live to remember the 25th edition in the series of the annual Nigeria Cup when it tees off on Saturday with the children’s event.
The Nigerian Cup’ golf tournament is meant to celebrate the nation’s independent anniversary.
Thus, the chairman during the pre-tournament briefing on Monday asserted that, the weeklong event billed for the Golf Section of Ikoyi Club 1938 will be filled with intriguing golfing activities and fanfare while the Silver Jubilee of the tournament lasts.
The chairman”s confidence of a worth memorable event is hinged on the faculty of sponsors secured as well as supports from individuals and a credible committee put in place to organise the tournament.
Also speaking, Chairman of the 2022 Nigeria Cup Organising Committee, Peter Eben-Spiff revealed that the kiddies competition will be followed by Caddies on Monday, Lady Golfers, Veteran, Invited Guests, Professional Golfers before finale on Saturday October 1st, 2022.
Justifying the need to celebrate in spite of the challenges presently facing the nation Eben-Spiff said, ‘there are always challenges in the life of a nation,’ saying Nigeria is not different.
He posited that the oneness Nigeria needs to progress is what the Nigeria Cup is all about.
Club Chairman, Demola Mumuney in his speech congratulated IGCNA for been able to sustain the spirit of the Nigeria Cup alive since it started.
Host Captain Tony Oboh while thanking the organising committee for a job well done urged the would-be winners and participants to always imbibe the spirit of sportsmanship in what they do.
