Johannesburg youth radio station YFM, one of South Africa’s longest‑running outlets for urban music and youth culture, has announced a refreshed presentation team for its flagship hip hop platform. On March 11, 2026, the station confirmed that acclaimed DJ and producer DJ Sliqe and emerging artist and media personality Roiii have been named as the new hosts of the programme that centres on all‑genre hip hop conversations and culture.
The announcement was made through a creative presentation led by media personality Scoop Makhatini, in which the two new hosts were formally introduced. The reveal was accompanied by a short video shared on social media that carried a symbolic caption indicating a fresh beginning for the station’s hip hop discourse.
DJ Sliqe comes into the role with a substantial history in South African hip hop. He rose to prominence with the release of his single “Do Like I Do,” and subsequently won a South African Music Award (SAMA) in 2016 in the Best Remix category. His contributions extend beyond production and performance, having been involved in artist development and spotlighting emerging rap talent within the country’s scene.
Alongside Sliqe is Roiii, a young artist and presenter whose career includes both music releases and media appearances. Originally from Pretoria, Roiii has developed a profile through his drill‑infused sound and lyrical approach, and has collaborated with established figures in South African hip hop as his career progressed. Prior to his radio role, he spent part of his early career working with industry veteran K.O before transitioning to an independent career, where his work has featured the single “La Vida Loca” among other releases.
The new hosting arrangement positions Sliqe and Roiii as the voices of a show that has historically served as a platform for artist interviews, cyphers, music premieres, and discussions about current trends in hip hop. Their presence aims to sustain the programme’s long tradition of amplifying voices and insights from within the local and broader hip hop community.
This change follows broader evolutions at YFM, which continues to adapt its programming to reflect developments in urban music and youth culture while maintaining a focus on engagement with its core audience of young South Africans.
With their appointments, DJ Sliqe and Roiii are set to lead the station’s hip hop narrative into its next phase, maintaining a role that intersects music, culture, and conversation.
