South African producer and DJ Freddy K has begun the rollout for his upcoming project If Gqom Was Piano, offering supporters a first look at the release through a teaser shared on Instagram. The announcement arrived with the project’s cover artwork and confirmed that the body of work is scheduled to arrive on 27 March 2026. With nine tracks forming the project, the reveal signals the beginning of a carefully paced rollout that introduces listeners to the concept behind the release.

Alongside the artwork reveal, Freddy K used the post to explain the direction of the project while confirming the next single that will lead the release cycle. “I’d like to announce that I’m dropping my first project of the year, titled ‘IF GQOM WAS PIANO,’ on 27/03/26. Gqom and Amapiano become one on this project. It’s a sound I’ve been working on for some time, and I’m finally excited to share it with everyone. The 2nd single from the project, ‘Sukuma,’ drops this Friday (13/03). Please repost, like, and share… Pre-order now. Let’s rock.”

The announcement places Sukuma at the centre of the rollout as the next preview of the forthcoming project. Positioned as the second single from If Gqom Was Piano, the track arrives as the next step in introducing the sound and identity of the nine-track offering before the full release later in March.

Another track already connected to the project is Wuwe, a collaboration with EeQue that was released on 12 December 2025. The record has since stood out as one of the early highlights associated with the upcoming project, giving listeners an initial sense of the sonic direction Freddy K is exploring. Its release served as one of the first introductions to the fusion of elements that now shapes the concept behind If Gqom Was Piano.

Freddy K’s presence within South Africa’s dance music space has been shaped by years of dedication to crafting rhythm-driven productions. Raised in Pretoria, he has developed a reputation for creating music built around layered melodies and energetic piano arrangements that have become closely associated with his sound.

His rise gained widespread visibility during the global lockdown period when performances on the widely viewed Lockdown House Party platform introduced his work to a broader audience. Those sets helped expand his reach while positioning him as a recognizable name among producers contributing to the evolving Amapiano landscape.

Beyond South Africa Freddy K has also taken his performances to international audiences, including appearances in cities such as Amsterdam and Birmingham. These shows extended the reach of his music while reflecting the global curiosity surrounding the sounds emerging from the country’s dance culture.

With the teaser now unveiled and Sukuma set to arrive ahead of the full project, the rollout for If Gqom Was Piano has officially begun. The combination of early singles and the newly revealed artwork now directs attention toward the full nine-track release, which Freddy K has confirmed will arrive on 27 March 2026.
