In a monumental move for South African Hip Hop, Afro Pop, and Maskandi fusion known as Ushun, Inkabi Records announces the official signing of versatile wordsmith Fanatic SA to its star-studded roster.
To commemorate the union, Fanatic SA has released his debut single, “Umlabalaba,” featuring Big Zulu and Olefied Khetha. The track, titled “Umlabalaba” a term deeply rooted in local culture referring to a cheese board or checkers game, delivers a poignant message far removed from competition. Instead, the song serves as a soulful dedication to a secret lover, illustrating the sacred bond of a relationship meant for only two people. The single showcases a seamless blend of raw lyricism and melodic storytelling.
Speaking on the release and his new home, an elated Fanatic SA shared his gratitude: “Joining the Inkabi Records family feels like coming home. Working with Big Zulu and Olefied Khetha on ‘Umlabalaba’ has been an incredible journey—I learned so much from their artistry and energy. This song is special because it speaks to the heart; it’s about that one person you hold close in a world that often feels crowded. I’m thankful for the belief the Nkabi Records has in me, and I can’t wait for the world to hear what we’ve been
cooking.”
The song’s narrative centers on the intimacy and privacy of love, avoiding public display and highlighting the quiet strength of a union that thrives behind closed doors. Inkabi Records founder, Big Zulu, expressed his excitement about the new addition to the family: “At Inkabi Records, we don’t just look for talent; we look for family. Fanatic SA brings fire and depth to this label that we’ve been needing. ‘Umlabalaba’ is just a glimpse of what he is capable of. We welcome him with open arms and remind him that this is your home now. Nkabi Records family stands with you.”
