‘The club felt they needed to act because there is still a lot to play for this season,’ a source said.

Reasons for Richards Bay terminating veteran striker Knox Mutizwa appear to be linked to off-field issues. The Zimbabwean forward’s contract was terminated with just two months remaining before the conclusion of the 2025/2026 PSL season.

The move came as a shock, as the former Golden Arrows player was reportedly instructed to stop training with his teammates and to leave the club immediately.

According to SABC Sport, the decision to dismiss him was taken due to ill-discipline, as the club continues its push to secure a top-eight finish.

Although specific details surrounding the alleged misconduct have not been made public, sources within the club told Phakaaathi that the move had been coming for a while.

“I wish I could tell you the whole story, but there are certain things that happened off the field, and the club felt they needed to act because there is still a lot to play for this season,” the source said.

“The coaching staff felt that they needed everyone focused, and to achieve that, they had to let him go in order to fight for a top-eight finish without any distractions.”

The 32-year-old scored four goals in 17 appearances for the Natal Rich Boyz before his untimely departure, and it remains to be seen where he will end up next, having built a reputation for himself as a prolific goalscorer.
