Actress and singer Letoya Makhene has opened up about deep-rooted family tensions, making serious allegations involving betrayal, abuse, and intimidation.
Her statement came on Sunday, the same day her family’s reality show, The Makhenes, premiered.
In her message, Letoya honoured her late mother, Agnes Makhene, describing her as a protective figure who shielded her husband and children from harm. She alleged that certain family members had plans to destroy her father, but were unable to do so because of her mother’s presence.
Letoya went further, claiming that those same relatives “had to get rid” of her mother, suggesting her death was not without underlying conflict.
Turning to recent events, she stated that she confronted her uncle for allegedly emotionally and verbally abusing her 103-year-old grandmother in her own home. According to Letoya, this led to retaliation, with the uncle allegedly spreading false claims about her in an attempt to damage her reputation.
She also accused some family members of targeting her livelihood, claiming they were trying to take food away from her children.
In a striking part of her statement, Letoya referenced threats against her life, saying that a gun had been pointed at her, but insisted she would continue to stand her ground and protect her loved ones.
Reaffirming her identity and strength, she described herself as a “shield” like her mother, vowing to keep fighting for her family despite the ongoing conflict.
