South African DJ and media personality DJ Zan-D recently entered the ongoing conversation around Kwesta and his musical direction, responding directly to a social media post that questioned the rapper’s current sound. Taking to X, Zan-D highlighted that Kwesta had already delivered a varied body of work in the past year, referencing his album The Big Bro Theory.

The exchange began after a user expressed a desire for Kwesta to return to a more traditional hip-hop approach, calling for less of his “masgoduke” style and more emphasis on rapping over hip-hop beats. The post also noted the commercial appeal of more accessible, radio-friendly music, suggesting that such tracks tend to receive wider rotation and audience acceptance.

In response, Zan-D pointed out that Kwesta’s most recent album already addressed that balance. His comment drew attention to the diversity within The Big Bro Theory, a project released in 2025 as a 12-track offering that blends multiple sounds and themes.

The album marked Kwesta’s return following his 2022 release and presented a body of work shaped through studio sessions with producers including Lunatik, Makwa, Tshego AMG, and John London. Created from scratch during a focused recording process, the project reflects a deliberate exploration of different sonic directions while maintaining a consistent narrative.

Across its tracklist, The Big Bro Theory incorporates a range of styles. Songs such as “The Throne” emphasize lyrical delivery and reaffirm Kwesta’s rapping ability, while others like “Ghost,” featuring Blxckie, experiment with trap-influenced production. Tracks including “Shaya” and “Joy,” featuring Nkosazana Daughter, introduce elements associated with amapiano and more melodic sounds, demonstrating a shift toward broader musical textures.

The album also includes collaborations with artists such as Amanda Black, Blaq Diamond, and Thabsie, contributing to its layered composition. These features add variation in tone, from introspective and emotionally driven tracks to more upbeat and accessible records.

Conceptually, the project positions Kwesta as an experienced figure within the industry, reflecting on longevity and growth. The album transitions from darker, introspective themes at the beginning to lighter, more uplifting moments as it progresses, aligning with its overarching narrative direction.

Zan-D’s response situates The Big Bro Theory within the broader discussion about artistic evolution and audience expectations. By referencing the album, he underscored the extent to which Kwesta has already engaged multiple styles within a single project, addressing both core hip-hop elements and commercially viable sounds.
