Prince Kaybee and Donald debate on respect in the industry

A social media exchange between Donald Moatshe and Prince Kaybee has sparked fresh debate about respect and hierarchy in the entertainment industry.

Donald set the tone with a message directed at younger creatives, urging them to acknowledge those who paved the way.

“To the young people in entertainment, respect the people who came before you, hold them at high regard, learn what you can from their journeys. Do not make the mistake of doing the latter,” he wrote.

His comments quickly drew a response from Prince Kaybee, who challenged the idea that respect should be tied to seniority alone.

The DJ argued that admiration cannot be demanded or manufactured simply because someone achieved success earlier.

“I disagree with this, demanding respect just because you did something before me makes no sense,” he responded.

He went further, criticising what he described as pressure placed on younger artists to revere industry veterans.

“When you gaslight artists into holding the ones that did it first at high regard it looks like forced admiration. You can’t force anyone to admire anyone just because they did something first for the sake of looking respectful.”

The differing views have since divided social media users, with some siding with Donald’s stance on honouring industry pioneers, while others backed Prince Kaybee’s argument that respect should be earned rather than expected.
