Edwin Sodi faces mounting financial pressure
Businessman Edwin Sodi is once again in the headlines as fresh legal developments suggest growing financial strain behind the scenes.
Court documents reportedly indicate that Sodi could lose his high-end Dainfern apartment after accumulating nearly two years of unpaid levies.
The body corporate of Borgo de Felice is said to be demanding close to R500,000, a figure that includes interest and legal costs. According to reports, the unit has been left vacant, with trustees claiming they have been unable to reach him for an extended period.
The latest issue adds to an already extensive list of financial challenges linked to the businessman.
Earlier reports indicated that he was ordered to settle more than R500,000 in unpaid luxury expenses, including high-end hotel stays in London and designer purchases.
His business interests have also faced setbacks, with NJR Projects, now known as G5 Group, reportedly placed under liquidation after failing to clear a R1.2 million debt.
On a personal level, he is also said to owe Hollard Insurance approximately R50 million.
Beyond financial matters, Sodi’s name has repeatedly surfaced in high-profile corruption investigations, including the Free State asbestos project and the controversial Rooiwal wastewater upgrade, which has been linked to the Hammanskraal cholera crisis.
Despite the mounting allegations and legal pressure, Sodi has often maintained a public image associated with wealth, luxury properties, and an opulent lifestyle.
However, the latest developments appear to highlight a growing contrast between that image and the financial realities now emerging in court records and media reports.
