South African rapper Yanga Chief has responded to the outcome of the Best Hip Hop category at the recent Metro FM Music Awards, where his track “What If? (Mngani)” was nominated but did not win. The award went to Stogie T for “Four Horsemen,” a collaboration featuring Nasty C, Maggz and A-Reece.

In a video clip shared on Instagram, Yanga Chief acknowledged Stogie T’s win and described its significance within the genre, saying, “Shout out to Stogie, that’s the big homie. That win was deep for the game, hip hop needs that,” as he congratulated the rapper on receiving the award. He also referenced the broader recognition of lyricism, adding that it was notable that Stogie T had not previously received such an award, stating, “I can’t believe ya’ll never gave Stogie T an award before for rapping. Hip hop, you gotta do better.”

While addressing the outcome, Yanga Chief also spoke about his own plans following the awards, indicating a continued focus on releasing music. In the same clip, he said, “From my side, it’s just gonna be more music, foot on neck, that’s it, for the rest of the year,” outlining his intended approach to maintaining momentum after the nomination.

He continued by emphasizing a competitive stance toward future releases, noting, “We’re not giving anybody a chance. We’re not gonna make it 50/50 no more, we’re gonna make it obvious,” describing how he plans to approach his work going forward.

The Best Hip Hop category featured several nominees alongside Yanga Chief and Stogie T. These included “Abazi Bafunani” by Big Zulu and Emtee, “Umguzumbane We Summer” by Makwa and Kwesta, and “Supanova” by K.O featuring Cassper Nyovest.

The announcement of the winner has drawn attention across the South African hip hop scene, particularly due to the collaborative nature of “Four Horsemen,” which brought together multiple established artists. Yanga Chief’s response highlights both recognition of the result and his continued activity in the genre following the awards.
