Cape Town’s rising R&B voice Gemma Fassie is reigniting the fire around her standout single My Place with a fresh twist. The artist has officially announced the upcoming release of the remix, this time bringing Nigerian talent Yugoszn into the fold. Set to drop on May 22, 2026, the new version promises to expand the song’s emotional reach while deepening its cross African resonance.

Originally featured on her six track EP Island 22, released in March 2025, My Place captured listeners with its smooth blend of Afropop and soulful R&B. Co-written by herself alongside KLY and produced by Evoke, the track explores the quiet strength found in walking away from love that no longer serves you. It is not a song about anger or blame, but about clarity, the moment you choose peace over attachment, healing over habit.

In her Instagram post announcing the remix, Gemma Fassie shared her excitement with her fans, which read,” i’m so excited to finally announce that @yugoszn joined me on the remix of “my place” & i cannot wait for you guys to hear it 😭 he took this record to a whole new level!! 🔥💌 may 22nd 👀 💌 pre-save link in bio.” With Yugoszn’s distinct vocal flair and lyrical finesse, the remix is shaping up to be more than a rework. It is a reimagining.

The original track has already carved its space as a fan favorite, praised for its honesty and melodic grace. Now, with a pan African collaboration at its core, My Place (Remix) aims to connect even more deeply across borders. The pre save link is now live in Gemma Fassie’s bio, giving fans a direct way to be part of the rollout.

Gemma Fassie, daughter of the late music legend Brenda Fassie, continues to carve her own path with authenticity and quiet confidence. Her music does not shout for attention, but it lingers, invites, and stays. With Island 22, she introduced a sound that is both intimate and expansive now with this remix on the way, she is opening the door wider.

The release of the remix marks a natural evolution. Not a departure, but an expansion of the song. As fans countdown to May 22, one thing is clear and that is, My Place is no longer just a song, but it is a moment.
