South African artist Muzi has officially released his latest album Electric Zululand, marking the arrival of one of the country’s most anticipated alternative music projects of the year. The album arrives with 14 tracks and continues Muzi’s exploration of electronic music fused with African identity, storytelling and futuristic soundscapes.

The rollout for Electric Zululand had already gained momentum in recent weeks after Muzi revealed the official list of featured artists attached to the project. Ahead of the release, the musician confirmed appearances from artists including Msaki, Muneyi, Lukhanyiso Soci, Kelen Lima, Bongeziwe Mabandla, Zeno and Soundz Tabuu, highlighting the collaborative nature of the album.

Opening the album is “Uhlanga,” the project’s first track, which also received an official music video as part of the album rollout. The visual release arrived shortly before the album officially dropped and introduced listeners to the sonic and cinematic direction of Electric Zululand. The track was inspired by Nguni mythology and forms part of the broader themes Muzi has been building around heritage, identity and futurism throughout the project.

Muzi previously described Electric Zululand as a body of work shaped by traditional Zulu influences while still carrying a modern and futuristic electronic sound. The project continues his long-standing approach of blending African storytelling with contemporary production styles.

The album follows the earlier release of singles connected to the rollout, including “Y,” which served as another preview of the direction Muzi planned to take on the full project. The music combines layered percussion, textured synths and organic vocal elements, contributing to a sound rooted in both electronic experimentation and African musical traditions.

Over the years, Muzi has built a reputation for creating music that merges electronic production with cultural references tied to his Zulu heritage. His work has also seen him collaborate on international platforms while continuing to maintain a distinctly South African identity in his music and visuals. Electric Zululand now adds another chapter to that catalogue with a project that places collaboration, storytelling and sonic experimentation at the centre of its direction.

With all 14 tracks now available on streaming platforms, Electric Zululand officially arrives after weeks of teasers, visuals and feature announcements. The album release also comes as conversations around South African alternative and electronic music continue growing both locally and internationally.
