Musicäl Mäjur turns inward and political on his latest single, “Chapter 5 (Ununited States of Africa)”, a reflective hip-hop record that wrestles with one of South Africa’s most emotionally charged issues: illegal immigration.

Built on minimalist production, the track avoids dramatic flourishes. Soft keys drift over a steady, head-nodding rhythm, creating a solemn backdrop for the rapper’s measured performance.

With clear diction and an effortless flow, the rapper approaches the topic from multiple angles rather than reducing it to slogans or outrage. He acknowledges the desperation driving migration across the continent, particularly from war-torn and economically unstable nations, while also confronting the tensions illegal immigration creates within South Africa itself.

The song’s opening line captures that balancing act:

“Our African brothers are being deported with no dignity / but how can we excuse their disrespect for our legalities?”

It’s the kind of writing that refuses easy answers. The song neither demonises immigrants nor romanticises the situation. Instead, Musicäl Mäjur frames the issue as a continental failure shaped by unstable governments, economic collapse, weak borders and historical fractures across Africa.

The track also reaches into Southern African political history. Musicäl Mäjur references the Frontline States, the coalition of Southern African nations formed during the 1970s and 1980s to support the fight against apartheid and white minority rule. Countries like Angola, Botswana, Mozambique, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe once stood united against oppression. By invoking that history, the rapper subtly contrasts past African solidarity with the fractured realities of the present.
