Sol Phenduka has stirred fresh debate about the future of Kaya 959’s popular breakfast show after claiming that veteran broadcaster DJ Fresh could be the station’s preferred choice to permanently replace Sizwe Dhlomo.

The podcaster and radio personality made the revelation during a recent episode of Podcast and Chill with Mac G, where he shared what he described as insider information regarding the developments that followed Sizwe Dhlomo’s departure from the radio station.

The comments have sparked widespread discussion among listeners and industry observers, with many questioning whether Kaya 959 is preparing a major shake-up of its flagship morning programme.

Sol Phenduka Shares Insider Claims About Sizwe Dhlomo’s Exit

According to Sol Phenduka, sources within Kaya 959 informed him that management moved swiftly to end Sizwe Dhlomo’s tenure at the station after he publicly announced his decision to leave.

Sizwe surprised listeners when he revealed on air that he would be stepping away from Kaya 959 after six years. At the time, he indicated that he intended to remain on the breakfast show until the conclusion of his contract in July 2026.

However, shortly after the announcement, Kaya 959 confirmed that his departure would take effect immediately rather than at the end of his contract term.

Speaking on the podcast, Sol claimed that station management decided to accelerate the process following Sizwe’s announcement.

“Today he announced, but obviously the contracts at Kaya end in June, and he was supposed to continue doing the show, but these birdies there at Kaya told me that the manager was like, ‘It’s immediate effect now,’” Sol explained.

He went on to say that even though Sizwe had initially suggested he would stay until the end of his contract, circumstances appeared to change after the public announcement.

“Because on the show he said, ‘Yeah, I’m still around. I will see my contract through.’ And then I think after he announced it, it now became immediate effect. I don’t know why, how,” he added.

While Kaya 959 has not commented on the specifics of the decision, the sudden nature of Sizwe’s departure has left many listeners searching for answers.

One of the most talked-about aspects of Sol Phenduka’s comments was his claim that DJ Fresh could be in line to take over the breakfast show permanently.

Following Sizwe’s departure, Kaya 959 announced that seasoned broadcaster Thomas Msengana would step in as interim host while the station conducts its search for a permanent replacement.

The station has also confirmed that a new breakfast team will be unveiled in June, fueling speculation about who will ultimately land one of the most sought-after positions in South African radio.

According to Sol, however, Thomas may simply be holding the position until management finalises a longer-term solution.

“The birdies spoke more. They said it’s Fresh who’s taking over to do the show,” Sol claimed during the podcast discussion.

The suggestion that DJ Fresh could return to a major breakfast slot has generated excitement among some listeners, given his long-standing reputation and influence within the South African broadcasting industry.

However, neither DJ Fresh nor Kaya 959 has publicly confirmed or denied the reports.

In addition to discussing the possibility of DJ Fresh joining the breakfast show, Sol Phenduka also suggested that former Kaya 959 managing director Greg Maloka could make a return to the station.

“The birdies said also, Greg might be coming back,” Sol revealed.

Greg Maloka played a significant role in the growth and development of Kaya 959 and remains a respected figure in the South African radio landscape. As a result, speculation about his potential return has added another layer of intrigue to the ongoing discussions surrounding the station’s future direction.

Although there has been no official confirmation regarding Maloka’s possible return, the rumours have sparked considerable interest among industry insiders and listeners alike.

The remarks made by Sol Phenduka have quickly become a hot topic on social media, with radio fans debating whether DJ Fresh would be the right fit for the breakfast show and what a possible return by Greg Maloka could mean for Kaya 959.

Some listeners believe the station may be preparing a significant restructuring of its on-air lineup, while others are waiting for official confirmation before drawing conclusions.

For now, Kaya 959 remains focused on its search for a permanent breakfast host, with Thomas Msengana continuing in the interim role. The station’s promise to announce a new breakfast team in June has only heightened anticipation.

Until an official announcement is made, the claims shared by Sol Phenduka remain speculative. Nevertheless, they have succeeded in keeping listeners engaged and have intensified interest in what could be the next major chapter for Kaya 959’s breakfast programming.
