South African rapper Moozlie is flying the country’s flag on the international stage after earning a nomination in the Best Female Rap Act category at the 2026 African Muzik Magazine Awards (AFRIMMA). She is the only South African nominee in the category, joining a strong line-up of female rappers from Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya, Tanzania, Mali and Zambia. AFRIMMA’s public voting is now open ahead of the awards ceremony, which will take place in Dallas, Texas, on September 12.
Founded in 2014 by Big A Entertainment, the African Muzik Magazine Awards celebrate African music and creatives across the continent and the diaspora. The annual event recognises excellence across multiple genres and regional categories while providing African artists with an international platform in the United States. Over the years, the awards have grown into one of the continent’s recognised music celebrations, attracting nominees from across Africa and beyond.
Moozlie shared her excitement with listeners during her Metro FM show, Not Like Us, which she co-hosts with Scoop Makhathini. Speaking on air, she proudly celebrated the achievement, saying: “Flying the South African flag high, I’m so excited.”
The rapper also took to social media to announce the nomination, writing: “INTERNATIONAL AWARD NOMINEE ALERT ‼️ So blessed & excited to be representing South Ah in the Best Female Rap Act category at this year’s @afrimma Awards taking place in Dallas, Texas!🏆”
The nomination adds to a growing list of South African artists recognised by AFRIMMA this year. Earlier, South African rappers A-Reece and Blxckie were nominated in the Best Male Rap Act category, highlighting the country’s continued presence in African hip hop on the continental stage.
For Moozlie, the nomination places her alongside some of Africa’s leading female lyricists while giving South Africa representation in one of the awards’ competitive rap categories. As the only South African female rapper nominated, she will be carrying the country’s hopes when the winners are announced in Dallas later this year, with fans able to vote for their favourite artists through the official AFRIMMA voting platform.
