Popular musician Makhadzi has been forced to apologize for not performing at the Northern Cape Heritage Festival.
She was booked and fully paid to perform on Saturday, 24 September, but never arrived.
According to her management Open Mic Productions, she had a busy schedule coupled with
transport challenges.
But Makhadzi’s non-attendance did not sit well with event organizers, who forced her to apologize.
In a statement, they wrote: “We feel that we must address the fact that Makhadzi did not show up. She was paid in full for her live performance. When it became clear that she was booked elsewhere, a jet was arranged to make travelling easy for her. It then emerged that Kimberley and Bloemfontein airports close 8 pm and 9 pm, respectively, meaning that no flights could land after these times.”
They further said the shows Makhadzi was doing in Limpopo were also further apart.
“In fact, at 8pm while we were talking to her team, her booking manager, only named as Mmaphuti, confirmed that they were driving from Marble Hall to the far north of Venda for another performance. This was a clear indication that she was not going to be done earlier than 8 pm anyway.”
The statement added that together with her team, event organizers started to look for options, one of them being a chopper.
“Makhadzi’s team helped us to source one. But by 10pm, we had exhausted all avenues and
failed to secure any available chopper. We then suggested that Makhadzi’s team drive her from Limpopo to Kimberley. We offered to drag the programme all the way to 7am, just so she could make her performance. Her team rejected the proposal. We advised that Makhadzi issue an apology to our patrons for failing to show up. When this was not materializing, we eventually got hold of Molao from Open Mic and after a telephonic conversation, there was a consensus that Makhadzi must issue a video to apologize,” the statement read.
Makhadzi and Open Mic apologized, saying: “Open Mic and Makhadzi would like to apologize to the Northern Cape Heritage Festival and her fans for her failure to make it to the show. Makhadzi apologizes with no reservations to all her beautiful fans and organizers of this precious event.
Makhadzi was looking forward to this event and promises to come to the province soon.”
