Plateau State Again: Angry Youths Storm Assembly Complex, Demand Ayuba’s Reinstatement

Angry youths in Plateau state on Monday morning of November 1, 2021 staged a protest against the impeachment of Speaker of the State House of Assembly Hon. Abok Ayuba, Daily Trust reports.

Recalled that Ayuba was, impeached as the Speaker and replaced with Sanda Yakubu, who hails from the Pingana constituency of Bassa Local Government area of the state.

Sixteen out of the 24 members of the assembly voted in favour of the impeachment at the plenary on Thursday, October 28b;

The young people in their numbers converged at the House of Assembly as early as at 4:00 a.m. despite security presence around the assembly complex.

In another report by Vanguard, youths carrying various placards called for the impeached Speaker to be reinstated. According to them, Ayuba is a youth that is being persecuted for standing for the future of Plateau.

It was gathered the impeached Speaker and 12 of his allies were in the Assembly, having a meeting, while security personnel were seen in strategic positions around the complex.

Meanwhile, Governor Simon Bako Lalong of Plateau state has reacted to Ayuba’s impeachment saying that he was surprised about the development.

The governor on Thursday, October 28, who made this disclosure when the new Speaker, Yakubu Sanda visited him at the Rayfield Government House in Jos, insisted that 16 lawmakers signed for the impeachment of the former Speaker.

A statement issued by the governor’s director of press and public affairs, Macham Makut said, the new Speaker led principal officers and some members of the House to the Government House to assure the Executive arm of its collaboration and cooperation in running the affairs of the State.
