The African National Congress (ANC) on Monday suspended uMkhonto we Sizwe Military Veteran’s Association (MKMVA) spokesperson Carl Niehaus from the party.
The ANC said Niehaus made comments during a press briefing held near former president Jacob Zuma’s homestead back in July 2021, which contravened the ANC Constitution.

Carl Niehaus claims to have already appealed the travesty of justice of [his] illegal expulsion by the ANC National Disciplinary Committee (NDC).
He added: “Because I have appealed the farcical expulsion is suspended. I remain a full member of the ANC”.

Needless to say, South Africans had a field day with the news, and memes a-plenty were shared on social media platforms.
Some supported Niehaus, saying he is a “threat to Ramaphosa”, while others feel the expulsion is long overdue.

Earlier this month, Niehaus claimed Ramaphosa “rented a crowd of thugs and paid them in food’ to attack him”.
Niehaus was picketing outside the National Exhibition Centre (Nasrec) in Johannesburg on Monday, over the Phala Phala saga.
Meanwhile, others felt the expulsion is long overdue. One netizen also questioned the validity of Niehaus’ appeal, saying:
“Where did you steal/cut and paste this appeal from? Different fonts and sizes for each bullet point?”

‘Consider retirement’
Another said instead of appealing, Niehaus “could just consider retirement, travel a bit”.

Another Twitter user, Godfrey Hlongwane, accused Niehaus of “dividing the party from the outside”, adding:
“Whether you are fighting for the right thing its a question for another day”
