Ganiu Taofik, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain in Lagos State has said that the gate of party is wide open to accommodate former Governor Akinwunmi Ambode and any other politician willing to abide by the rules of the party.
Taofik, who made this known in an interview on Tuesday, also said Ambode has some chances to return as Lagos governor in 2023 if he joins the PDP.
Ganiu, a former spokesman of the PDP in Lagos affirmed that the PDP would allow as many politicians as possible to try their popularity using the party’s platform, expressing confidence that the party would displace the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos in the next governorship election.
It had earlier been reported that Ambode, who was Lagos governor between 2015 and 2019, appreciated Lagosians on Tuesday for endorsing his contributions to the development of the state.
The 58-year-old APC chieftain also urged youths to get their Permanent Voters Cards ahead of the 2023 general elections as his Facebook post on Tuesday sparked fresh public discourse as to whether he wants to run for office in 2023 but he has not declared any intention.
Speaking on Tuesday, Taofik said, “The PDP is a political party, the gate is widely open; you can come in and come out as long as you abide by the regulations of the party, especially when you are seen as an asset, you will definitely be a beautiful bride.
According to him, “Anybody can join the party and we are ready to allow as many as possible to try their popularity using our platform” and “Of course, he and any other person can join us in the PDP.”
