Kaizer Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane has confirmed that he now needs a No.6 in his team as the rebuilding process takes shape.

On paper, Chiefs have a few options available for the position but they have struggled to fill the gap since Njabulo Blom left them in December.

Amakhosi have the experienced duo of Phathutshedzo Nange and Cole Alexander who can play in that position.

Zwane however does not seem to rate them that much and has publicly spoken about finding another No. 6.

“We keep looking for players, we will never stop looking for players,” said Zwane at the weekend.

“As I said we’re looking for players that we think can come in and add value. We don’t want players who will come in and just add numbers because of hasty decisions or because we’re desperate.

“Right now, we’re not desperate. So we will wait for the right moment and when we get the No. 6 that we think can come and add value, we’ll definitely bring him on board,” added Zwane.

Jali’s age may be issue

And with Mamelodi Sundowns dragging their feet on extending Andile Jali’s contract, Chiefs may just swoop in and get him.

Jali has all the attributes of a No.6 that Zwane may be looking for and he has the experience of having won every trophy on offer with Sundowns.

But at 32, Zwane may feel he needs someone who will have longevity as he will need to build the team around them.

The other option for Zwane is Stellenbosch FC’s Sibongiseni Mthethwa. It has however been reported previously that Stellies are not keen to part with him.

According to reports, the Western Cape side would only be open to negotiations for the midfielder at the end of the current season.

But if Chiefs were to offer either Nange or Alexander as part of the deal, Stellies could yet agree and cash in on the 28-year-old.

Mthethwa now has some experience having played a season with Black Leopards in the top flight and has now been with Stellies for two terms.

He has proved to be a capable box-to-box central midfielder who can also play as a traditional No. 6 that Zwane may be looking for.
