Nigerian DJ, SPINALL’s sixth album, ‘TOP BOY’ features a dreamy list of artists from the continent and the diaspora. South African stars Nasty C and Blxckie join a slew of Nigerian talent such as Minz, Niniola, BNXN fka Buju, Amaaarae and western acts 6LACK, Summer Walker and DJ Snake among others.
The 15-song project comes with collaborations you didn’t know you needed such as Blxckie and Nigerian rapper LADIPOE on ‘Outside’, Summer Walker, DJ Snake and Ayanna’s ‘Power (Remember Who You Are)’ and Fireboy DML and 6LACK on ’Sere (Remix)’.
Across 15 songs, SPINALL showcases the sounds of African Pop music which ranges from South Africa’s Amapiano (‘Palazzo’, ‘Give Me Love’), R&B and Pop-infused Afrobeats (‘Bunda’, ‘Power, ‘Just to Be’ etc.) among other genres from across the continent such as Afro-House and Afro-Pop.
“I don’t know what I’m making sometimes. It’s the ability to bring everything that I feel inside of me into the records that makes them special,” SPINALL told Apple Music.
Breaking down the closing song ‘Power (Remember Who You Are) – Nasty C Remix’ which also features Summer Walker, DJ Snake and Ayanna, the DJ sang praises for the South African rapper. “Nasty C is one of the true sons of Africa,” he said. “He is a sick lyricist who is able to reach all generations of music listeners. Shout out to the skaters too. This is the first time in history that the skaters’ community will have an official song.”
