Talented jazz singer and songwriter Gloria Bosman died at 50 on Tuesday, 14 March after a short illness. She is popularly known for her international and local performances alongside the late Sibongile Khumalo, Hugh Masekela, Oliver Mtukuzi, and more. The Soweto-born star has also appeared in many Afrikaans music festivals such as KKNK, Aardklop, etc.

WHERE WAS THE SINGER BORN?
Sunday World reports that the singer Gloria Bosman was born in Soweto and was a jazz, African, rock, and gospel vocalist. The two-time SAMA winner was also an accomplished producer, composer, and presenter.

HOW DID THE JAZZ STAR DIE?

Zimoja reveals that the jazz and opera singer Gloria Bosman passed on Tuesday, 14 March at the age of 50 after collapsing at the O. R Tambo International Airport.

It is believed she travelled outside Gauteng and was on her way back from her performance when she died. The two-time Kora Music Award nominee Gloria Bosman has shared the stage (both locally and internationally) with famous names such as Hugh Masekela, Sibongile Khumalo, Moses Molelekwa, Tananas, Sipho Mabuse, Vusi Mahlasela, Sipho Gumede, Oliver Mtukudzi, Victor Masondo and more, according to News24.

Her debut offering, Tranquillity, earned Bosman a SAMA for Best Newcomer IN 2001 and nominations for Best Contemporary Jazz Album and Best Female.

She was announced as a member of the Southern African Music Rights Organisation (Samro) board of directors a month ago.

The songstress’ talent enabled her to break into the Afrikaans music market, where she appeared in Afrikaans music festivals such as KKNK, Aardklop, and Skouspel in Sun City.

News24 adds that the Soweto-born singer was also part of a project called ‘Al Daai Jazz’, which were jazzy rearrangements of Afrikaans songs. (Adapted from Sheer Music’s press release).

The joy of jazz founder Peter Tladi confirmed her death and revealed there will never be one like her. She is survived by her only daughter and one grandchild.
