Gavin Hunt may not be pleased with playing at the Tshwane University of Technology Stadium as SuperSport United’s traditional home ground, the Lucas Moripe Stadium is undergoing some renovations, but Matsatsantsa A Pitori managed to keep their unbeaten home record in the DStv Premiership this season.

United beat TS Galaxy 2-0 on Good Friday to make sure that they stay ahead in the running for second place as the race intensifies, given that Soweto giants Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs are also in the running. Amakhosi play Marumo Gallants while the Buccaneers are away to Chippa United on Saturday.

SuperSport moved to 43 points while Chiefs and Pirates are on 40 points each.

Siphesihle Ndlovu opened the scoring for SuperSport as early as the fourth minute and it was a goal scored off the back of a Jamie Webber freekick that came off the upright before the ball was sent wide, and back into the box to find Ndlovu, who scored with a diving header.

Some 16 minutes later, Grant Margeman, who was playing more as a attacking midfielder, a typical number 10 as opposed to his more deep lying role, navigated through Galaxy’s midfield before slicing the defence and played a wide ball out to Thapelo Maseko. The attacker played a cross to Bradley Grobler.

The goal poacher was set on goal as he slid towards goal in anticipation of Maseko’s cross, but thanks to goalkeeper Vasilije Kolak, who extended his arm to make the slightest of contacts, but it was enough to keep the ball out of Grobler’s reach.

However, Matsatsantsa A Pitori doubled up in the 39th minutes and it was the quick thinking of Thulani Hlatshwayo and Man of the Match Margeman, who did not waste time to play their freekick, with “Tyson” releasing Margeman and the midfielder went wide to the right to play a cross that found Grobler and the potent striker made no mistake as he netted his 10th league of the season.

Towards the hour mark, SuperSport felt aggrieved when Gamphani Lungu went down in the box twice in two minutes, with Hunt and his entire bench calling for penalties, but the lady in the middle, referee Akhona Makalima was having none of it as she waved play on, much to the frustration of SuperSport.
