ChatGPT in the studioLISTEN: Tech Check podcastChatGPT a ‘profound risk to humanity’Articles mentioned in the podcast:

In today’s episode of Tech Check with Kahla and Kruger, we did an AI-takeover experiment and asked ChatGPT to write a podcast script about, well, ChatGPT.

Once the chatbot had its fun, the humans took over again. Who did it better? Us or ChatGPT?

Did AI ruin our podcast script? You decide, but I will say, the AI-generated portion of this script sounds like OpenAI propaganda, but maybe that’s just me.

Tune in below as Lyle, Shaun and I also get serious and talk about the real-life implications of artificial intelligence and chatbots such as ChatGPT.

Lyle made an interesting point: “The same way we govern nuclear weapons, we have to have those sort of laws and restrictions around AI.”

I personally don’t see that happening. As a species, we aren’t known for banding together on a global scale.

We also touch on how South Africa is not ready for the AI revolution, on AI ‘hallucinations’, on the ethical implications and the impact these tools may have on jobs and privacy.

ChatGPT a ‘profound risk to humanity’

As reported previously, the Future of Life Institute submitted an open letter on the potential risks associated with conducting ‘giant’ AI experiments.

The letter calls for a six-month pause to assess the potential risks prior to conducting any further AI experimentation.

Researchers believe companies such as OpenAI should focus on prioritising the contingency plans required, should AI get out of hand.
