Following an embarrassing loss to Orlando Pirates, AmaZulu FC coach Ayanda Dlamini has apologised to the club supporters.

AmaZulu were hammered 4-0 by the Buccaneers, who dominated the entire match in the last day of the DStv Premiership season last weekend.

Dlamini was left disappointed with the loss, but he promised the Usuthu fans that they will come back stronger next season.

“We are very sorry regarding our match against Orlando Pirates. But we promise that we will come back next season and fix all of our mistakes so that we can make you guys happy. We are very sorry to have disappointed you the way we did,” Dlamini told the Usuthu media.

The defeat against Bucs saw Usuthu finish the league in 12th spot on the log with 33 points and as a result, the KwaZulu-Natal failed to qualify for the MTN8. But they managed to escape relegation after ending their campaign with only four points separating them with relegated Marumo Gallants.

Last campaign, AmaZulu finished the season in seventh place with 41 points. Usuthu also reached the final of the MTN8, where they lost 1-0 to the Buccaneers at the same venue earlier this campaign.

In the 2020/21 season, Usuthu had one of their best runs in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) era, as they finished as runners-up to league winners Mamelodi Sundowns.

The club qualified for the Caf Champions League for the very first time in their history.

This season has been a roller-coaster ride for Usuthu, having shown promises of improvement from the last two seasons.

But, the chopping and changing of coaches might be one of the main reasons for AmaZulu’s downfall.

The club looked to be heading in a good direction with Benni McCarthy at the helm. The current Manchester United striker coach was the reason the team finished second two seasons ago.

After McCarthy left, they have since brought in Brandon Truter, who only lasted a few months with the club.

Truter was followed by Romain Folz, but he was later redeployed to become the technical after a string of poor results, leaving Dlamini to finish the season.
